Our school is named after Walter Halls. This picture
hangs in our school office. He was born in 1870 and died
in 1953 when he was 83. He was the son of a poor farm worker
and one of a family of 10. From aged 10-14 he worked as
a ploughboy and was hired out for £5 a year. At 18
he worked in a goods yard and was a porter for 20 years.
He had 8 children all on the wage of a labourer.
Walter moved to Nottingham in 1913. He began to serve
on local authorities. He was made Chairman of the City
Education Committee from 1934. From 1937-1938 he was Sheriff
of Nottingham and in 1938 he was made Lord Mayor.
Our school was opened in 1939. |
